One of the 64 manifestations of Shiva, the man, woman form with Parvati constituting the half of Shiva is Ardhanareeswara. Ardhanarishvara is the androgynous combination of Shiva and his consort Parvati, split down the middle as half man half woman. Ardhanarishwar is said to characterize the fusion of the masculine and feminine energies of the world - representing a constructive and generative power. As Ardhanarishvara, Lord Shiva harmonizes the two conflicting energies. 

Similarly everywhere in nature, animate or inanimate, we find in every individual or particle a tremendous urge to be united with something else, outside, or inside.

Art History - Madhubani, which by one account means Forest of Honey, is a region in Mithila region of Nepal and the northern part (Madhubani district) of Bihar. The Madhubani paintings is an ancient style of painting that originates 2500 years ago. Following the age-old methods of painting, the artist, till date, mixes cow-dung and rock-salt glue to the paints. While cow dung is used for the shine it imparts to the colored patches, glue helps the paint to bind well with the special handmade paper used for these paintings.
