Soumitra Chatterjee is an Indian actor and Poet who has been an iconic figure in the Bengali cinema. He graduated in Bengali literature from the City College, University of Calcutta. His alliance with the world famous Satyajit Ray has brought out some timeless movies. Soumitra has been honoured with the Padma Shri, the Padma Bhushan, 'Officier des Arts et Metiers', the highest award given by the French government for achievers in the field of arts and Lifetime Achievement award from Italy. Devi, Teen Kanya, Abhijan, Charulata and Kapurush are some of his movies among many others.
