Dixit graduated in Marine Engineering and served four years with the Merchant Navy before sitting for the civil services examination and joining the Indian Administrative Service in 1986. As an IAS officer of the Rajasthan cadre he held a series of district and state-level postings, with longer engagements in agriculture and rural administration that later informed his writing on Indian agrarian policy.
He served as Secretary of the Rajasthan Cricket Association, a tenure that placed him at the centre of the public debates over Board of Control for Cricket in India governance during a particularly contested period in Indian cricket administration. He has continued to comment on the institutional politics of Indian sport in the years since.
After retirement Dixit founded The Jaipur Dialogues, which has since grown into a widely-followed platform on YouTube and a series of public events, including an annual flagship conference in Jaipur. The channel hosts conversations with scholars, journalists, diplomats and public intellectuals on Hindu civilisation, foreign policy, internal security and contemporary Indian politics.
Alongside the platform he has written extensively on agriculture, strategy, and Indian civilisational themes. The Krishna duology — Krishna Gopeshvara followed by Krishna Yogeshvara — is his principal literary work and is published by Garuda Prakashan.
