This book explores the Hindu, Buddhist, Jaina, Zoroastrian, Islamic and Sikh belief systems in order to comprehend their percepts on the concept of self, their perspectives on emotions, and the implications of these for the individual and society. In addition, a review of contemporary psychology, incorporating views from evolutionary psychology, biological psychology, neuro psychology, cognitive psychology, and social psychology, in relation to their theories on self and emotions, is also presented. This analysis is an attempt towards integrating religion and personal identity, within the background of contemporary knowledge of the dynamics of being human. About Author : Sonali Bhatt Marwaha, Ph.D. acquired her training in Clinical Psychology from S.N.D.T. Women University, Mumbai An M.A. and M. Phil. In Clinical Psychology, with a focus in neuropsychology, she was awarded a Ph.D. by the Andhra University. Her area of interest are in the interface between philosophy, religion and psychology, and in the study of religio-cultural aspects of self and identity. Her most recent publication is Towards a Spiritual psychology co-edited with Prof K. Ramakrishna Rao. Currently, she is director, Centre for Empowerment of Women at the Institute for Human Science & Service, Visakhapatnam, India.
