About the Book : Geopolitics as a concept of learning is as old as civilisation. But due to the absence of a systematic growth of theory, it could not be developed into a mature discipline. This work is an attempt not only to develop a systematic theory for geopolitical studies, but, at the same time, to trace the basic principles which are the driving force behind the growth of entire human civilisation. The development of geogra-phical and historical studies depends upon the growth of science and technology in a congenial social, economic and political set-up. Predictably, the nature of geopolitical studies has undergone a basic change with the passage of time. From the era of oceanic discoveries, the civilisation has moved on to the realm of space science and exploration of oceanic resources. In order to determine the contours of such studies diverse aspects of learning are to be taken into consideration. This work is a meeting place of Geography, Philosophy, History, Political Science, Space Science and Oceanography. From this viewpoint this book is a pioneering study. About Author : Debabrata Sen took his M.A. Degree in History from Gauhati University. He is presently teaching at the School of Correspondence Couress and Continuing Education, University of Delhi. He is the author of two earlier monographs : (1) India and the Cold War, and (2) Problems of India's Defence.
