Ziauddin Sardar

Ziauddin Sardar was born in Pakistan and grew up in London. A writer, broadcaster, and cultural critic listed by Prospect magazine among Britain's top 100 intellectuals, he has authored more than forty-five books on Islam, science, and postcolonial culture. He has served as Visiting Professor of Postcolonial Studies at City University London and as a Commissioner for the Equality and Human Rights Commission. In Mecca, he draws on his own pilgrimages to trace the city's history, its cultural tensions, and its hold on the Muslim imagination.
