Wilt L. Idema

Wilt L. Idema is a distinguished Dutch sinologist and research professor of Chinese Literature at Harvard University, specializing in traditional Chinese vernacular literature, drama, and popular narratives. He obtained his BA, MA, and PhD from Leiden University and taught there before joining Harvard in 2000. Idema has published extensively in English, Chinese, and Dutch, with a focus on early Chinese drama, women's literature of the premodern period, and popular narrative ballads. His book 'Personal Salvation and Filial Piety (Two Precious Scroll Narratives of Guanyin and Her Acolytes)' presents translations and analysis of significant Chinese scroll narratives related to Guanyin and themes of filial piety.
