Vijay Tendulkar (1928–2008) was a leading Indian playwright, film and television writer, literary essayist, and political journalist who wrote primarily in Marathi. His Collected Plays in Translation (Oxford University Press, 2004) gathers eight of his best-known works in a single volume, each translated by distinguished Marathi-English translators. The collection includes a preface by Tendulkar on his development as a playwright and an introduction by Samik Bandyopadhyay on the role of power in his dramatic work.
