Vethathiri Maharishi

Vethathiri Maharishi, born on 14 August 1911 in Guduvancheri, Tamil Nadu, was a philosopher, spiritual teacher, and social reformer who founded the World Community Service Centre (WCSC) in Chennai in 1958 to promote inner peace as the basis for world peace. He developed the Simplified Kundalini Yoga (SKY) system, a method combining meditation, yoga exercises, and traditional healing practices that he taught to people from all walks of life. Over his lifetime he wrote around eighty books in Tamil — spanning philosophy, ethics, spirituality, and cosmology — many of which were adopted as academic texts. He died on 28 March 2006 in Coimbatore.
