S. P. Bahadur (born 1926) studied at La Martinière College, Lucknow, and retired as Chief Engineer of the Irrigation Department of Uttar Pradesh in 1984. Drawing on the guidance of his maternal uncle, Mahatma Anjaninandan Sharan of Ayodhya, he translated all of Tulsidas's literary works into English across six volumes for Munshiram Manoharlal Publishers. Volume five, the Kavitavali, is an anthology of 325 devotional verses in the Braj Bhasha tradition.
