Thunjath Ezhuthachan

Thunjath Ezhuthachan

Thunchaththu Ramanujan Ezhuthachan was a Malayalam devotional poet and linguist, born in Trikkandiyoor near Tirur in present-day Malappuram district, generally placed in the sixteenth or seventeenth century. Regarded as the father of modern Malayalam, he shaped the language through his literary works, most notably the Adhyatma Ramayanam Kilippattu — a retelling of the Ramayana in the kilippattu (bird-song) form that has been recited in Kerala households for centuries. His edition published by H&C Publishing House, Thrissur, carries this canonical text to contemporary readers.
