Tekchand Tagore

Tekchand Tagore is the pen name of Peary Chand Mitra (1814–1883), a key figure of the Bengal Renaissance and member of Henry Derozio's Young Bengal movement. His novel আলালের ঘরের দুলাল (Alaler Ghorer Dulal), published in 1857, is a landmark of Bengali literary history: the first sustained work in print to employ colloquial spoken Bengali, pioneering the Bengali novel as a form and influencing writers including Bankim Chandra Chatterjee.
