Swami Gambhirananda (1899–1988), born Jatindranath Datta, joined the Ramakrishna Mission in 1923 and rose to serve as its eleventh President from 1985 to 1988. A disciple of Swami Shivananda, a direct disciple of Sri Ramakrishna, he was a profound scholar of Vedanta who produced English translations of ten major Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, and the Brahma Sutras with Shankara's commentaries. He also wrote extensively in Bengali, including সিদ্ধান্তালেশ সংগ্রহ (Siddhantalesha Samgraha), published by Udbodhan Karyalaya in Kolkata.
