Sudhir Chakravarti

Sudhir Chakravarti was a professor of Bengali literature who began his teaching career in 1958 and was also associated with the Institute of Development Studies Kolkata. He was awarded the Ananda Purashkar in 2002 and the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2004 for his book Baul Fakir Katha. Along Deep Lonely Alleys: Baul-Fakir-Dervish of Bengal, published by Niyogi Books, is an English translation by Utpal K. Banerjee of his Bengali original Gobheer Nirjon Potheye, drawn from two decades of field research across Nadia, Murshidabad, Birbhum, and Bardhaman districts.
