Saradindu Bandyopadhyay (1899–1970) was a celebrated Bengali writer, playwright, and screenwriter. While he wrote in multiple genres including historical fiction and ghost stories, he is best known as the creator of the iconic fictional detective Byomkesh Bakshi, often referred to as the 'Satyanweshi' or 'truth-seeker'. His Byomkesh stories are acclaimed for their intricate plots, sharp characterizations, and vivid depiction of Calcutta.
