Salma

Salma (born Rajathi, 1968, in Thuvarankurichi, Tamil Nadu) is a Tamil poet, fiction writer, and activist. Her debut poetry collection Oru Malaiyum Innoru Malaiyum (2000) made an immediate impact on Tamil letters with its candid depiction of female desire and confinement. Her novel Irandaam Jaamangalin Kadhai (2004), translated into English as The Hours Past Midnight, was longlisted for the Man Asian Literary Prize (2009) and shortlisted for the Crossword Book Prize (2010).
