Saadat Hasan Manto

Saadat Hasan Manto (1912–1955) was a pre-eminent and controversial Urdu short story writer of the 20th century. Born in British India, he spent the latter part of his life in Pakistan after the Partition, an event that became a central, searing theme in his work. Manto is celebrated for his unflinching, raw, and humane portrayals of the dark side of society, and his stories about the horrors and absurdities of the Partition are considered literary masterpieces.
