S. V. Subramanian (1929–2017) was a distinguished Tamil scholar, educationist, and grammarian. He served as a lecturer, head of the Tamil department at University College, Thiruvananthapuram, and as the Director of the World Tamil Research Institute in Chennai. A prolific writer, he authored 165 books in Tamil, 9 in English, and one in Malayalam, covering a wide range of classical Tamil literature, grammar, and literary criticism. His significant contributions include commentaries on foundational texts like தொல்காப்பியம் (Tholkappiyam), சிலப்பதிகாரம் (Silapathikaram), and கம்பராமாயணம் (Kambaramayanam), as well as works on Sangam literature and Thiruarutpa. He also founded Thiruvalluvar College in Papanasam in 1969.
