S. N. Barkataki

S. N. Barkataki was a senior Indian civil service officer in Assam and a writer in both English and Assamese. His extensive travels through the hills of Assam in an official capacity gave him direct access to the oral traditions of the region's tribal peoples. Tribal Folk Tales of Assam, published by the Assam Prakashan Parishad, Guwahati, compiles 128 folk tales from nine hill tribes including the Lushai, Khasi, Garo, Mikir, Zemi-Naga, and Dimasa Kachari.
