Rakhshanda Jalil (born 1963) is an eminent Indian writer, translator, critic, and literary historian, specializing in Urdu and Hindi literature. With over 30 books and numerous academic papers to her credit, she is known for her diverse works including literary histories, biographies, short stories, and translations. Her notable publications include Invisible City: The hidden Monuments of Delhi, the short story collection Release & Other Stories, and Liking Progress, Loving Change: A Literary History of the Progressive Writers' Movement in Urdu. She has translated works by significant Hindi and Urdu authors and also edited An Uncivil Woman- Writings on Ismat Chughtai and authored Shahryar: A Life in Poetry. Jalil actively promotes Hindi-Urdu literature and culture through her organization Hindustani Awaaz and contributes regularly to national and international publications. Her works include Preeto & Other Stories, Office Fables for Today's Manager, and Pigeons of the Domes- Stories on Communalism.
