Rajinder Singh Bedi (1915-1984) was a pre-eminent Indian Urdu writer, playwright, and a notable figure in the Progressive Writers' Movement. Renowned for his psychological realism and profound exploration of human relationships, he is considered one of the finest short story writers in Urdu literature. Bedi's literary contributions extended to Hindi cinema as a director, screenwriter, and dialogue writer, with notable work on films like `Abhimaan' and `Madhumati'. His acclaimed Urdu novel `Ek Chadar Maili Si' (translated as `I Take This Woman' in English) earned him the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1965. The novel is translated into Russian as `Ordained By Fate' by Kuldip Dhingra.
