Rajinder Singh Bedi

Rajinder Singh Bedi (1915–1984) was a celebrated Urdu writer, playwright, and film director from India. He is considered one of the leading exponents of Urdu fiction, known for his profound psychological insights and realistic portrayal of human relationships. Bedi's works often explored the complexities of rural and urban life with sensitivity and depth. His acclaimed novel Ek Chadar Maili Si (Ordained By Fate), which was also adapted into a film, earned him the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1965. He also published several collections of short stories, including Classics of Modern Indian Literature (Selected Short Stories), further cementing his reputation as a master storyteller in Urdu literature.
