R. L. Kashyap

Rangasami Lakshminarayan Kashyap (1938–2022) was Emeritus Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Purdue University, USA, where he made foundational contributions to pattern recognition and information theory, including the Ho-Kashyap algorithm and the Kashyap Information Criterion. In parallel, he served as director of the Sri Aurobindo Kapali Sastry Institute of Vedic Culture in Bangalore and produced complete English translations of the Rigveda Samhita, Krishna Yajurveda Samhita, and other major Vedic texts. He received the Padma Shri in 2021 for his contributions to Vedic scholarship. Shanti Mantras, drawn from the Upanishads and Veda Samhitas, is among his many published works through the Institute.
