Sir Ramkrishna Gopal Bhandarkar (1837–1925) was a professor at Elphinstone College and Deccan College and one of the founders of modern Indology in India. In Second Book of Sanskrit: A Treatise on Grammar, first published in 1881, he provides a systematic treatment of Sanskrit grammar including declension, conjugation, and syntax, with exercises structured to follow Paninian principles. The Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute in Pune was founded in his honour.
