PATRICK OLIVELLE

Patrick Olivelle is a renowned Indologist and scholar of Sanskrit literature, specializing in Dharmaśāstra, asceticism, and renunciation in ancient India. He is Professor Emeritus of Sanskrit and Indian Religions at the University of Texas at Austin. He has translated numerous Sanskrit works, including the Upanishads, the Puranas, and the Dharmasutras. For his work, the President of India awarded him the Padma Shri in 2022. His works include A Sanskrit Dictionary of Law and Statecraft and Vacanamala, a sub-commentary on the Yajnavalkya Dharmaśastra.
