Padmanabh S. Jaini

Padmanabh S. Jaini (1923–2021) was a distinguished Indian-American scholar of Jainism and Buddhism, recognized for his profound knowledge in both Digambara and Śvetāmbara traditions of Jainism. He held professorships at prestigious institutions including Banaras Hindu University, the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), the University of Michigan, and the University of California at Berkeley, where he was a professor emeritus. Jaini authored numerous books and papers, with his seminal work `The Jaina Path of Purification` (1979) becoming a standard textbook in the field. His contributions also include critical editions of texts, such as `Abhidharmadipa with Vibhasaprabhavrtti`, a significant Buddhist philosophical treatise.
