Nathan Huggins

Nathan Irvin Huggins (1927–1989) was a distinguished American historian, author, and educator, renowned for his contributions to African American studies. He served as the W. E. B. Du Bois Professor of History and Afro-American Studies at Harvard University and was the director of the W. E. B. Du Bois Institute for Afro-American Research. Huggins's work emphasized the integral role of African American history within the broader history of the United States. His notable publications include Harlem Renaissance (1971), Black Odyssey: The Afro-American Ordeal in Slavery (1977), and Slave and Citizen: The Life of Frederick Douglass (1980). He also edited the biographical series Black Americans of Achievement and compiled "Du Bois Writings-The Suppression of The African Slave-Trade The Souls of Black Folk Dusk of Dawn Essays and Articles."
