Nanjil Nadan

Nanjil Nadan, the pen name of G. Subramaniam (born 1947), is a celebrated contemporary Tamil writer known for his novels, short stories, poetry, and essays. Hailing from Veera Narayanamangalam in Kanyakumari district, his works frequently depict rural life, social struggles, and the cultural nuances of the Nanjil Nadu region, often incorporating humor, satire, and local dialect. He received the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award in 2010 for his short story collection 'Soodiya Poo Soodarka'. Nanjil Nadan's published works include சாலப்பரிந்து: தேர்ந்தெடுத்த சிறுகதைகள் (Caalapparintu: Selected Short Stories) and the non-fiction work நாஞ்சில் நாட்டு வெள்ளாளர் வாழ்க்கை: காலம் நிகழ்த்திய மாற்றங்கள் (Naanjil Naattu Vellalar Vaazhkai: Kaalam Nikazhthiya Maatangal), which explores the life of the Vellalar community in Nanjil Nadu. His novel Thalaikeezh Vigithangal was adapted into the Tamil film 'Solla Marandha Kadhai' in 2002.
