Michael Slouber

Michael Slouber is a Professor of South Asian Studies and Religious Studies, specializing in early medieval religions of India. He earned graduate degrees from the University of California at Berkeley and Universität Hamburg. His research focuses on the history of medicine, Tantra, shamanism, and goddess traditions in southern Asia. In Early Tantric Medicine (Snakebite, Mantras, and Healing in the Garuda Tantras), Slouber offers a close examination of the Garuda Tantras, which he rediscovered in ancient Sanskrit manuscripts, bringing to light a tradition that combines knowledge, faith, visualizations, secret mantras, herbal medicine, and lore on snakes, astrology, and healing.
