Maya Devi Puran Singh

Maya Devi Puran Singh, who married the Punjabi poet Puran Singh (1881–1931) in 1904, wrote Puran Singh — A Life Sketch, a slender volume published by Sahitya Akademi that draws on personal acquaintance to introduce his life and writings to readers outside Punjabi. Puran Singh was the first Punjabi poet to employ free verse extensively, and Maya Devi's account offers an intimate portrait of the man and his creative sensibility.
