Maraimalai Adigal

Maraimalai Adigal (1876–1950) was a pivotal figure in Tamil literature and the Pure Tamil Movement (Thani Tamil Iyakkam), advocating for the removal of Sanskrit words from Tamil. A profound scholar, orator, and prolific writer, he was instrumental in shaping modern Tamil prose and fostering Tamil identity. His extensive body of work includes commentaries on classical Tamil texts, philosophical treatises, and plays. Adigal's writings also explored spiritual and esoteric subjects; his book மரணத்தின் பின் மனிதர் நிலை (Human Beings After the Death) delves into the state of human beings after death, while மெஸ்மரிச-ஹிப்னாட்டிச பயிற்சி நூல் (Mesmerism & Hypnotism) provides a guide to these practices. Both works were published by Narmadha Pathippagam, Chennai, showcasing his diverse intellectual interests.
