Mahadevi Varma

Mahadevi Varma (1907–1987) was a major figure of the Chhayavaad movement in Hindi poetry and a committed advocate for women's rights in India. Links in the Chain (Hindi: Shrinkhala ki Kadiyan) gathers eleven essays she wrote between 1931 and 1937 examining the social, legal, educational, and economic conditions of Indian women. She was awarded the Jnanpith Award, Sahitya Akademi Fellowship, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Vibhushan.
