Lal Behari Day

Lal Behari Day (1824–1892) was a Bengali journalist, Christian missionary, and writer celebrated for his command of English prose. Inspired by stories heard from village elders in his boyhood, he compiled Folk-Tales of Bengal, first published in 1883, to document the oral traditions and lives of Bengali peasants. His earlier novel Bengal Peasant Life (1874) drew a letter of appreciation from Charles Darwin.
