Kirtinath Kurtkoti

Kirtinath Kurtkoti (1928–2003) was a distinguished Kannada writer, critic, playwright, and translator, renowned for his multilingual literary and cultural criticism. Born in Gadag, Karnataka, he taught English in various colleges before joining Sardar Patel University in Gujarat. Kurtkoti's extensive oeuvre includes commentaries on Kannada literature, encompassing works from early writings to those of the late twentieth century. He was awarded the Central Sahitya Akademi Award in 1995 for his critical work Uriya Nalage and the Karnataka Sahitya Akademi award for Marathi Samskruti - Kelavu Samasyegalu. Kurtkoti's scholarly pursuits involved a deep familiarity with Kannada, Marathi, Hindi, Gujarati, Sanskrit, English, and other European literatures and philosophical traditions. He also served as an advisor to the Kannada publishing house Manohar Grantha Male and was a member of prestigious literary organizations like the Sahitya Akademi.
