Kenneth Grahame

Kenneth Grahame (1859–1932) was born in Edinburgh and spent his professional career at the Bank of England, eventually rising to the position of secretary before ill health led to his retirement in 1908. He began writing essays and sketches in the 1880s, and The Wind in the Willows — originally devised as bedtime stories for his son — was published that same year of his retirement, becoming one of the most beloved works of children's literature.
