Kavitha Rao is an Indian-American writer, journalist, and former lawyer known for her historical narratives. Born in Bangalore, she studied arts and law at the National Law School of India University before embarking on a career in journalism, including a stint as a legal correspondent for The Economic Times. Her critically acclaimed book, Lady Doctors: The Untold Stories of India's First Women in Medicine, profiles six pioneering Indian women who overcame significant social barriers, including colonialism, casteism, and patriarchy, to practice medicine between the 1860s and 1930s. The work was longlisted for prestigious literary awards in 2021. Rao has also authored The Librarian and co-authored Everything You Wanted To Know About Freelance Journalism.
