K. Satchidanandan

K. Satchidanandan (born 1946) is a highly acclaimed Indian poet, literary critic, translator, and academic who writes in both Malayalam and English. Born in Kerala, he holds a PhD in post-structuralist poetics and was a professor of English before joining Sahitya Akademi, India's National Academy of Letters, where he served as editor of "Indian Literature" journal and later as its Secretary from 1996 to 2006. A pioneer of modern Malayalam poetry and a significant voice in contemporary Indian literature, Satchidanandan has published numerous volumes of poetry, essays, and translations, with his work appearing in 18 languages and earning him over 35 awards, including multiple Kerala Sahitya Akademi awards, three National Awards, and international honors from the governments of Poland and Italy. His extensive body of work includes "At Home in the World (A Window on Contemporary Indian Literature)," "While I Write (New and Selected Poems)," "Positions- Essays on Indian Literature," and edited anthologies such as "Sabad - An Anthology of World Poetry" and "Greening The Earth A Global Anthology of Poetry," reflecting his broad engagement with global and Indian literary traditions.
