K. Ayyappa Paniker

K. Ayyappa Paniker (1930–2006) was an influential Malayalam poet, literary critic, academic, and a pioneering figure of modernism in Malayalam poetry. His seminal work, Kurukshetram (1960), marked a turning point in Malayalam poetry. Paniker held academic positions, including Director of the Institute of English at the University of Kerala, and was chief editor of the Sahitya Akademi's Indian Literary Encyclopaedia. He received numerous accolades, including the Padma Shri, Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award, and the Saraswati Samman in 2005. Paniker edited the multi-volume Medieval Indian Literature- An Anthology and wrote Like a River Fed by Many a Stream: Reflections on the Confluence of Cultures.
