K.A. Subramania Iyer

K. A. Subramania Iyer (1896–1980) was a distinguished Indian scholar of Sanskrit grammar and linguistics, renowned for his lifelong work on the philosopher-grammarian Bhartṛhari. He served as Professor and Head of the Sanskrit Department at the University of Lucknow and later as Vice-Chancellor of both Lucknow University and Varanaseya Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya. His extensive scholarship focused on the Vākyapadīya, Bhartṛhari's seminal text on the philosophy of language. Iyer's contributions include critical editions, translations, and studies such as "Vakyapadiya of Bhartrhari" with commentaries by Helārāja and Vṛṣabhadeva, "Sphoṭasiddhi of Maṇḍana Miśra," and his comprehensive study, "Bhartṛhari."
