Jayshankar Prasad

Jaishankar Prasad (1889–1937) was born in Varanasi and became one of the foremost writers of modern Hindi literature, recognized as a leading voice of the Chhayavad movement alongside Sumitranandan Pant, Mahadevi Verma, and Suryakant Tripathi 'Nirala'. He excelled as a poet, playwright, and prose writer. His greatest work, कामायनी (Kamayani, 1936), is an allegorical epic poem exploring Indian philosophy, culture, and the myth of the great flood through the figures of Manu, Ida, and Shraddha.
