Jayant Bhatt

Jayanta Bhatta was a major 9th-century philosopher, poet, and logician of the Nyāya school from Kashmir. A court poet for King Śaṅkaravarman, he is celebrated for his sophisticated defense of Nyāya epistemology and theology against rival philosophical schools. His magnum opus, the Nyāyamañjarī, is an exhaustive and eloquent commentary on the Nyāya Sūtras. He also authored the Āgamaḍambara, a unique four-act allegorical play that dramatizes the philosophical debates between various traditions of his time.
