J.L.Kaul and Neerja Mattoo

J. L. Kaul (1900–1986) was a scholar who taught English at university level and produced pioneering translations of Kashmiri literature, including an early volume on the medieval mystic Lal Ded published by Sahitya Akademi. Neerja Mattoo (born 1937), who served as Professor and Head of the Department of English at Government College for Women, Srinagar, revised and edited his collection of Kashmiri Lyrics for a 2008 Sahitya Akademi edition. The volume gathers lyrical works from the fourteenth century onward.
