J K Rowling

J.K. Rowling was born in 1965 near Bristol and studied at the University of Exeter. The idea for Harry Potter came to her on a train journey in 1990, and the first novel, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, was published by Bloomsbury in June 1997. The seven-book series has sold hundreds of millions of copies worldwide, been translated into dozens of languages, and adapted into a major film franchise. Rowling has also written the Wizarding World companion volumes Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Quidditch Through the Ages, and The Tales of Beedle the Bard, as well as the stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
