Jagdish Chandra Jain (J. C. Jain) was an indologist, educationist, writer, and participant in India's independence movement who authored over eighty books on Jain philosophy, Prakrit literature, and Hindi studies. History and Development of Prakrit Literature, published by Manohar, was the first comprehensive scholarly treatment of its kind by an Indian or foreign scholar, produced after detailed research across Indian and foreign literary sources. The work traces the important role of Prakrit in the development of Indian languages and letters.
