Iftikhar Gilani

Iftikhar Gilani is a journalist with several decades of experience reporting from South Asia and the Middle East. In June 2002, while working with the Kashmir Times, he was arrested under the Official Secrets Act on allegations of passing information to Pakistani intelligence, facing a potential minimum sentence of fourteen years if convicted. After sustained protests from civil society and media organisations, the government withdrew the case in January 2003. My Days in Prison is his account of seven months inside Tihar Jail and the process that both imprisoned and eventually exonerated him. The Urdu translation of the book received the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2008.
