Horace Hayman Wilson (1786–1860), often known as H. H. Wilson, was a prominent English orientalist and the inaugural Boden Professor of Sanskrit at Oxford University. A key figure in Indology, he made significant contributions including the first complete English translation of the Rigveda, translations of classical Sanskrit works like Kalidasa's Meghadūta, and the compilation of an early and highly influential Sanskrit-English dictionary, originally published in 1819. He also served as the Assay Master of the Calcutta Mint and later as the librarian of the East India Company. Wilson compiled A Sanskrit English Dictionary: A Comprehensive Sanskrit English Lexicon Shabd Sagar, a foundational work in Sanskrit lexicography.
