Hans Utter

Hans Utter is an accomplished ethnomusicologist, professor, author, and musician, recognized for his proficiency as a guitarist, sitarist, and oud player. He holds a Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology from Ohio State University and has undergone extensive training in Indian classical music as a disciple of Ustad Shujaat Khan. Dr. Utter is a visiting professor at various universities in India and the USA, with research interests spanning mind/body music pedagogy and Silk Road music. He is the author of Trance, Ritual and Rhythm: The Cult of Mahasu Deota in The Western Himalayas, a work based on his field research in a Jaunsari village. He has also written numerous scholarly articles and is currently working on a biography of Ustad Vilayat Khan.
