H.H. Wilson

H.H. Wilson (1786–1860), born Horace Hayman Wilson, was an influential English orientalist and a pioneering Sanskrit scholar. He was appointed the first Boden Professor of Sanskrit at Oxford University. Wilson made significant contributions to Indology, including the first complete English translation of the Rigveda and the translation of classical Sanskrit works such as Kalidasa's Meghadūta and Kumara Sambhavam. He also compiled an early Sanskrit-English dictionary.
