GYANENDRA PANDEY

GYANENDRA PANDEY

Gyanendra Pandey (b. 1949) is a highly influential historian and a founding member of the Subaltern Studies collective, known for reshaping the understanding of South Asian history by focusing on marginalized perspectives. He has held professorships at the University of Delhi, Johns Hopkins University, and Emory University, where he is currently an Arts and Sciences Distinguished Professor of History. Pandey's research centers on colonialism, nationalism, communalism, violence, and historical memory in modern India. While primarily a historian, the presence of titles like "अनङ्गरङ्गः- The Anangarangah of Mahakavi Srikalyanamalla (Sanskrit text with English Translation)," "Harita Samhita (Sanskrit Text with English Translation)," and "Vajikarana Tantra" alongside his historical works like "Routine Violence (Nations, Fragments, Histories)" suggests a broad intellectual range or potentially indicates a shared name with another scholar. His major historical works include "The Construction of Communalism in Colonial North India" and "Remembering Partition: Violence, Nationalism and History in India."
