Gopinath Kaviraj

Gopinath Kaviraj (1887–1976) was one of the foremost Sanskrit scholars and Indologists of twentieth-century India. He served as Principal of the Government Sanskrit College, Varanasi from 1923 to 1937 and was a renowned expositor of Tantric philosophy, yoga, and Indian metaphysics across Bengali, Sanskrit, and English. He received the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1964 for his research on Tantra and was awarded the Padma Vibhushan the same year. তত্ত্ব ও সাধনা (Tattva and Sadhana) and সাহিত্য চিন্তা (Sahitya Chinta) are among his Bengali works, the former engaging with philosophical principles and spiritual practice, the latter with literary reflection.
